5 Tips for Improving Your Resume Search

5 Tips for Improving Your Resume Search

Are you using the Awesome Applicants Resume Database at Workamper.com?  It is one of the benefits of our Employer Gold yearly membership. The objective of the tool is not to replace your need to advertise your opportunities, but to provide an additional resource of potential applicants for your opportunities. Another arrow in your quiver!

With that said, there are steps you can take to improve your experience and your search results.  To the right are some considerations when doing searches in the resume database at Workamper.com.

Workampers can provide where and when they want to Workamp, as well as a free-type section where they may review their skills, objectives, list references, etc. Photos may also be included on the resume - we encourage Workampers to post photos of themselves and their rigs.

Over the years, we have improved the ability for Workampers to market themselves more effectively to employers, which is beneficial to you, the employer. (We have taken your input regarding the validity of a resume into consideration.)

Workampers can list their work history in an organized grid-format, making it quicker for you to consume. We’ve also added a section for them to include an introductory video that they recorded themselves.

Our upper level Workamper members have the option to list past experiences and to have them verified. When a Workamper requests to verify a work history entry, a Workamper News Team Member will attempt to contact that Employer to verify the dates the Workamper worked there and also if he/she is a rehire. We are not always able to verify, but we hope this feature will take some of the leg-work off you.

This by no means provides you with the knowledge you can gain by making a call to a reference provided by the Workamper, but does offer a third-party verified, quick snapshot of their history.

Please do not extend a job offer to a Workamper just based on their resume alone. When we hear of a Workamper situation that turned negative, this is one action (or lack of action) that is common among many of these reports. We urge all Employers to have at least one phone/internet call with an applicant, contact references, and develop a written work agreement signed by both parties before or at the time the Workamper accepts the position (do not wait until the Workamper has driven all the way to your location!).

Tips for Success:

1. Enter criteria in multiple search fields.  Do not just pull up a general list using the state search field - especially if you are in a popular snowbird state like Texas, Florida, Arizona, etc. You won’t get as many resumes when you focus your criteria more tightly, but volume of resumes is not always the best.  The quality of the resume and probability of success with the applicant increases as you fine tune your search.

2. Sort your search results. Once you have your results grid, you can sort it how you like by clicking on the headers of three of the columns. The default is to show you the most recently updated resumes at the top.

3. Check the “Employment has been verified by Workamper News” box on the search page to only see resumes that have work history entries that have been verified by Workamper News. When requested by our upper level members, we will try to verify the dates the Workamper worked for the listed Employer and if that Workamper is a rehire or not.

4. Only view resumes that have been updated more recently. Enter in a date in the “Last Updated Since” field - like 30 or 45 days ago.  This will show you resumes that have been most recently worked on.

5. When viewing an individual resume, you have multiple options: You can print the resume to have a physical copy. If you save the resume, it will be easy to find again in your ‘saved resumes’ section which you can click to from the main search page. You can rate the resume from 1-5 (which only you see) so you can easily avoid resumes that are not a match. The bubble that shows next to a resume in the list allows you to quickly know if you have viewed or saved it, and if it’s changed since you last viewed it.
